Police investigate as fire breaks out at vegetable packing plant

Police are investigating a blaze at a Scottish vegetable packing facility that broke out on Friday.

Fife Fire and Rescue was called to the Kettle Produce facility in Freuchie, some 20 miles south of Dundee, at 6am on Friday (9 April). 10 appliances and 50 firefighters tackled the blaze and a stop was called at just after 3pm.

According to a statement on the Fife Constabulary website, no-one was injured in the fire and all nightshift staff were safely evacuated.

"The full extent of the damage is not known at the current time however it is known that it was contained to a packing and chill area," the police said.

Once the area is made safe, investigators will focus on areas within the affected property to establish the cause of the fire, the statement concluded.

Kettle Produce was unavailable for comment when contacted by Packaging News. The firm supplies a range of fresh vegetables to UK supermarkets.
