Lamination specialist Celloglas is targeting the luxury packaging market with a new soft-to-the-touch laminate, Cellotouch.
The material, which is neither glossy nor matt like conventional laminates, is manufactured using bi-orientated polypropylene and due to the haze level on the film, is more scruff resistant than standard matt laminate.
Celloglas said the film was ideal for finishing luxury packaging, book and magazine covers or brochures.
Jennifer Deacon, Celloglas's marketing manager, told Packaging News that the material was being used by cardboard engineering designs and production company Create This in the manufacture of a new pop-up flip-book product.
Steve Middleton, Celloglas's sales director, said it could be applied on its own or in combination with other finishes to create contrast. The latest Cellotouch sample has a combination of Cellotouch, spot UV and matt varnish.
"The matt varnish 'switches off' the Cellotouch enabling designers to create select areas of softness in accordance with their artwork. The spot UV adds a contrasting gloss," said Middleton.
In January, Celloglas underwent a major restructure after its directors bought five of its 13 sites back from an administrator.
