Essentra invests in HP technology to boost label production
2018-09-26

From: Packaging News

Essentra Newport has invested in the new HP Indigo 6900, for the production of self-adhesive labels.

With enhanced capabilities this technology is designed to broaden the packaging firm’s portfolio, providing increased opportunities for customers.

The press is currently being used in the tobacco for the e-cig market, health, beauty and personal care.

Essentra Newport previously owned a HP Indigo 6800 and have been constantly engaging HP over the prospect of Metallic inks being added to their presses.

The new purchase hinged around the opportunity of increasing the volumes through the press by having the improved capabilities.

Paul Smith, site director at Essentra Labels, told Packaging News: “The investment which has enhanced capabilities will provide us with additional opportunities to convert small run orders from Flexo to Digital. The added features of the new machine in turn will also simplify the embellishment process with the HP Indigo now capable of producing metallic inks. With the increased opportunity of converting work we expect to transfer more items to digital which will increase the linear metres and clicks on the press. With reduced set up times and repeatability the business is able to provide a more competitive price whilst maintaining a good profit margin whilst relieving capacity on existing Flexo lines.”

Please describe how it has fared since installation – how satisfied staff are with the new equipment.

The results since installation have been ‘flawless’, according to Smith.

“The transfer of colour data from one press to another was seamless. The addition of splice detection and metallic inks have invigorated staff providing a renewed enthusiasm on how they can contribute to the progression of digital print with Essentra.”
