Pret rolls out reusable cup and reduces plastic use
2018-09-11

From: Packaging News

Foodservice chain Pret A Manger has unveiled its first reusable cup and committed itself to eliminate all “unnecessary plastic”.

The new reusable cup, which it has created with Ecoffee, is made from light-weight bamboo fibre and has a re-sealable, no-drip lid. Its design features the iconic Pret star on a cream background. Pret’s reusable cup is 12oz (355ml) and it costs £10.

As part of its Global Plastic Pledge, Pret said that it will roll out paper straws while also removing hot drink stoppers and teaspoons this summer. Pret is also introducing more china cups to its stores.

Clive Schlee, chief executive of Pret, said: “We introduced a market leading discount of 50p for using a reusable cup at the start of the year. This increased usage ten-fold which has amazed us all. I’m hoping our own cup will encourage more customers to bring one in. An organic filter coffee for 49 pence must be the best value cup of coffee in the UK.”
