Jamie Oliver calls for sugar information labels on drink packs
2015-10-23

From:Packaging News

TV chef Jamie Oliver has called for a radical overhaul of labelling on fizzy drinks to disclose the amount of sugar each pack contains.

Oliver called for sugar content to be shown in teaspoons on fizzy drinks, urging the government to impose the regulatiosn on the food and drinks industry.

Giving evidence to the health select committee, he handed out bottles of fizzy drinks with the labels doctored to show how many teaspoons of sugar they contain – in some cases up to 14 spoons on a bottle.

“The reason the [food and drinks] industry don’t want you to have that is because the impact is visceral. I’m not saying you ain’t going to buy it, I’m saying you won’t rattle it out three times a day.”
