CeDo urges continuing environmental focus
2008-12-05

Europe's market leader in household disposables, CeDo, is urging the packaging industry and its customers to renew its commitments to recycling and to environmental packaging.

"The recent troubles of the financial and economic worlds are very unsettling for all markets, globally," Managing Director David Pearce said in an announcement. "It is understandable that some commentators may predict a period of knee-jerk focus on product price and price alone. However, our experience at CeDo Ltd -- and we supply a wide range of plastics packaging disposables to Europe's main supermarkets and retailers -- is that price will not displace environmental concern."

According to him, the retailing and consumer appetite for recycled plastic with low carbon footprints is permanent, irreversible and rising.

CeDo's range of EcoMin disposable packaging contains a minimum of 60% true Post Consumer Recyclate (PCR), 30% calcium carbonate compound and 10% virgin polythene. The PCR is predominantly sourced from CeDo's own recycling plant in Geleen in the Netherlands. The feedstock for which is predominantly agricultural film collected from UK, Ireland and continental Europe. The plant is certified to EN15343, with full audit traceability of feedstock and is the only one of its kind in Europe.

CeDo's EcoMin production from its Telford UK site is currently operating at full capacity with demand being led by customers such as Sainsbury's, Tesco, Aldi, Lidl, Morrisons, ASDA Wal-Mart, Carrefour and Wilkinson.
