Japan to launch plastic beverage bottles for repetitive use
2008-12-05
Japan is trying to recycle plastic beverage bottles from next month, wash it thoroughly and fill again for sale to decrease greenhouse gas emissions, the Ministry of the Environment, Government of Japan said recently.

As a pilot test, the ministry prepared specially made 1.5-liter plastic beverage bottles, which are slightly thicker than those commonly sold in market.

These 1.5-liter bottles, filled with mining water, will be sold starting the end of August in supermarkets. Consumers will pay a deposit of 10 yen to 20 yen when purchasing each of the bottled mining water and the bottles will then be recycled, cleaned, filled for sale again in September.
