Chesapeake invests in quality control

Cartons specialist Chesapeake has announced a raft of quality-control installations across its global pharmaceutical operations.

Chesapeake has added an online image-inspection system to the sheet-fed Komori press at its Leicester site.

The camera-based system monitors both the colour and content on pharmaceutical cartons, even when the press is running at full speed.

An EyeC offline system has been installed in Belfast and, the firm said, is currently being trialled at a third plant after the system was installed in Gent, Belgium last year.

Irish plants in Westport and Greenford have also been equipped with blank-leaflet detectors for folding carton machines, while Chesapeake’s German operation in Neu-Isenburg is awaiting a Vision Expert system that is scheduled to be introduced before the end of the year.

Simon Tokelove, Chesapeake head of asset management, said: “We have carefully selected the best system to suit the product type and particular needs of each operation. All the systems closely monitor manufacturing quality providing further customer reassurance.”

Outside of Europe, Chesapeake has also invested in quality control at plants in the US and China.
