Ardagh Glass plans Irvine revamp after £2m government grant

Glass manufacturing giant Ardagh Glass has been handed a grant worth nearly £2m from the Scottish Government to enhance its Irvine plant.

The £1.95m development grant is a Regional Selective Assistance Award that will support ongoing improvements and investments of over £16m at Ardagh’s container glass manufacturing plant in Irvine over the next three years.

Ardagh Glass Group chief executive Niall Wall said: "We appreciate the continued support of the Scottish Government, Scottish Executive and Scottish Development in helping us improve the sustainability of our manufacturing operations.

"This funding will ensure significant CO2 reductions and also ongoing efficiency improvements at our Irvine plant, helping to secure local employment."

The group is Europe’s third largest glass manufacturer and operates primarily in the spirits industry. It produces over 13bn glass containers a year and employs 6,500 people across 20 plants in Europe.
