London-based design agency Here has worked with a Scottish cabinetmaker to create the packaging for a limited-edition whisky.

The 150 handcrafted bottles of Balvenie Forty are exclusively on sale at airport retail outlets at a price of £2,500 each.

The bottle's label was produced by calligrapher Peter Horridge who handwrote the details on each of the 150 labels.

For the packaging, Here and Balvenie commissioned craftsman Sam Chinnery to produce a bespoke circular oak box that references the coopered construction of a whisky cask.

Chinnery's father hand-engraved the age of the single-malt whisky on the boxes.

Here creative partner Mark Paton said the aim was to engage craftsmen with the design.

"It's always a pleasure to listen and learn from someone who has spent their life honing and refining their craft – whether they're a malt master or cabinetmaker," he said.

Balvenie Forty is matured for more than 40 years in sherry casks and refill hogsheads and was created by malt master David Stewart. They went on sale last month.
