Nestlé to open Asian packaging development centre

Nestlé is opening a new innovation hub in Singapore for drinks packaging and product development in the Asia-Pacific region.

The aim of the new facility will be to develop new products based on local tastes and preferences for both the local market and further afield, Nestlé said.

It will also develop new packaging, "including packaging for consumers with limited income", and provide technical assistance to Nestlé markets in the region.

Nestlé R&D Singapore director Susanne Kulhanek said it was important for the firm to "blaze the trail of innovation" to meet and anticipate customers needs.

"In order to do this, we must continually expand and update our range of products as proof of our commitment, creativity and know-how," she said.

The new Singapore hub is scheduled to be fully functional by the beginning of next year and is located at the firm's research and development centre. It expands an existing site that focuses on coffee.

Nestlé has 29 R&D operations worldwide employing some 5,000 staff.
